What is the difference between paraphrasing and summarizing?

from Nora18 on 01/14/2023 11:43 AM

Paraphrasing and summarizing are both ways of rephrasing or condensing information from a source, but they are used for different purposes and achieve different results.

Paraphrasing involves taking a passage or text and rewording it using your own words and sentence structure, while still maintaining the original meaning. The goal is to convey the same information as the original source, but in a different form.

Summarizing, on the other hand, involves condensing a passage or text to its main points or essential meaning. The goal is to provide a brief overview of the original source, highlighting only the most important information.

In short, Paraphrasing tool is about rewording, summarizing is about condensing.
